The Buzz: Gracie Hart fans, listen up: Before Sandra Bullock unveils her wildly anticipated science-fiction turn in Gravity, she partners with Melissa McCarthy to keep reignite the female-powered comedy phenomenon kickstarted by Bridesmaids. That movie's director, Paul Feig, is behind the camera here with a script from Parks and Recreation writer/producer Kate Dippold. With a sequel already in development -- and a lot of press dedicated to a theatrical poster featuring a heavily airbrushed Melissa McMarthy -- the stage is set for opening weekend.

Certificate PG-13   -   Action | Drama | Thriller
While on a tour of the White House with his young daughter, a Capitol policeman springs into action to save his child and protect the president from a heavily armed group of paramilitary invaders.

The Buzz: It's cool to see President Jamie Foxx and First Lady Garcelle Beauvais in the White House, though we will have to see how they fare in the wake of Olympus Has Fallen's surprise success earlier in the year. With the every-gender appeal of star Channing Tatum, and director Roland Emmerich talking up his just confirmed Independence Day sequel(s) on the press circuit, WHD might do what OHF could not: perform well in the US and the rest of the world.

When it appears as though the end is in sight, the pilots, flight crew, and passengers of a plane heading to Mexico City look to forget the anguish of the moment and face the greatest danger, which we carry within ourselves.

The Buzz: Pedro Almodovar himself let it be known that he is revisiting the tone of his early comedies with his latest film, which features cameos from Antonio Banderas and Penelope Cruz, and plenty of fey delights, apparently. We've loved the dark detour he's taken since Volver and look forward to a summery change of tone. It's also worth noting that in a creative climate where money is hard to come by, Excited! was financed entirely by worldwide pre-sales.

The Buzz: Gritty screenwriter Steven Knight (Eastern Promises, Dirty Pretty Things) makes his directorial debut with a thriller that will hopefully help us distinguish Jason Statham's latest movie from everything that has preceded it.

The Buzz: Few directors handle myth like Neil Jordan. Look up detailed reviews of his questionable films -- In Dreams, Ondine, The Brave One are my nominees -- and you'll sense the architecture of his entire, curious filmography. Fans have breathlessly awaited his return to the world of vampires, hoping he will breathe new eternal life into the genre, which has been victimized by many unworthy entries over the last few years. One dividing factor here could be the lack of gore, because this is a mood piece from beginning to end.

On the eve of his wedding, a successful writer travels across the country to meet up with ex-lovers in an attempt to make amends for past relationship transgressions.

The Buzz: It would be so cool to talk with director Daisy von Scherler Mayer about the current state of movie distribution since her enduring 1995 comedy Party Girl was the first film streamed in its entirety over the Internet. Here, she's back behind the camera for an adaptation of Neil LaBute's play that featured David Schwimmer in the role now inhabited by Adam Brody. With Kristen Bell lined up as the final ex Brody's character visits before his trip to the altar, we think the same people who powered Bell's Veronica Mars project on Kickstarter might make this a VOD triumph.

Documentary
A documentary on the 1970s punk trio Death, and their new-found popularity decades after they disbanded.

The Buzz: Mark Christopher Covino's documentary has been hyped as a look at a forgotten band who served as a precursor to the punk-rock movement in the U.S., which is hyperbole that still cannot outshine the power of Death's music and the seriously cool way in which the Detroit trio's music has been reintroduced to contemporary disciples. Picture if your son made your 1970s garage band one of today's most sought after underground records.

The Buzz: Documentarian Matthew Cooke has courted controversy before; he was one of the producers behind the Oscar-nominated Deliver Us from Evil, and here he offers an Anarchist Cookbook-like primer for would-be drug dealers.
